TL;DR

Using the regular Gemini app next to Google AI Studio is like showing up to a Formula 1 race in a family hatchback. Technically you're on the track. AI Studio is a free workshop, and these six tools are why one person can look like a team:

  1. 1Build mode. Describe a landing page, calculator or booking widget and watch it get built, so a prototype costs an afternoon, not a developer's deposit.
  2. 2Workspace access. Work straight from your Sheets and Drive, which means no export, no CSV, no three-tool automation just to read a spreadsheet.
  3. 3Design variations. One click gives several different looks for the same page, so you pick a direction instead of fighting CSS.
  4. 4Images with readable text. Google's image model can blend reference images and keep text legible, so a poster finally says "50% off" in letters.
  5. 5Stream mode. Share your screen and talk it through live, like a patient senior engineer who never sighs at your question.
  6. 6The settings panel. Structured output for clean data and search grounding for current, cited facts: the difference between a toy and a business tool.

Your first hour in AI Studio

Six features is a lot. Here's the order I'd try them in, with a prompt for each, so you end your first hour with something you can actually use.

1 Build something small and real

Build mode starter
Build a one-page landing page for [my business] with a simple pricing calculator: visitors choose [options] and see an estimated price. Clean, mobile-friendly, with one clear call to action: [book a call / email me].

Keep version one tiny. Then ask for design variations and pick the one that looks most like you.

2 Point it at a real spreadsheet

Workspace starter
Using my sheet [name], draft a short, personal outreach email for each lead based on the details in their row. Keep each under 80 words and mark any lead with missing information.

3 Turn on the two nerdy settings

Structured output makes the model reply in a fixed format (JSON) you can paste into a sheet or app without cleanup. Search grounding lets it pull current, cited information instead of guessing from memory.

Grounded research
With search grounding on: give me a short competitive overview of [3 competitors] in [market] right now, with sources for each claim. Separate facts from your interpretation.

4 Ask for help, live

Stuck on a broken page, a formula or a contract clause? Start stream mode, share the screen and ask out loud. It's the closest thing to a co-founder who's always awake and never brings up equity.

Feature names and buttons move around. If something has changed, search AI Studio's docs for the feature name.
